Lichtspiele reAnimiert

The installation is inspired by the “Reflektorische Farblichtspiele” performance, designed by Schwerdtfeger and Hirschfeld-Mack in the early 1920s to reflect Bauhaus concepts concerning color, shape, and rhythm.

In this real-time interactive installation, an audio/visual environment is created by the audience and their movements. The visual part features various patterns, with the characteristics of each pattern changing based on the position and movement of the audience. For the audio component, a single track plays in a loop, with motion influencing properties of the sound, such as frequency. The main idea behind this project is to change the role of the audience, allowing them to become part of the creative process through interaction with each other and the installation. The implementation of this project involves two main steps. First, detecting the body movements of the audience, and second, linking these movements to the audio/visual environment. The primary tools for this installation are the Microsoft Kinect sensor and the software applications Unity and Max/MSP.

This project was realized at Bauhaus University and showcased at the Republic of Spirits festival.
